A new series for English-language speakers in Hamburg
Welcome to Hungry in Hamburg. The perpetually rainy second-largest city in Germany is a haven for different cuisines and has so many great restaurants to choose from. But how to pick?
Through personal experience and conversations with friends, I've noticed, that despite the large expat community in Hamburg, there's actually limited English language sources available. There is clearly a gap in the market. A Liv-sized gap in the market, you could say.
And so, I like eating. I like speaking English (can do it quite well too!). And I like telling people about the great places to eat in the Hanseatic city. So welcome to my new series "Hungry in Hamburg". If anyone has a better title, do let me know...
I'll give a round up of best restaurants in Hamburg I've been to and new places that I have an eye on. So if you're looking for places to eat in Hamburg, look no further!
German language resources
If you are blessed with the Deutsch skills, I'd really recommend the following sources for information on Hamburg and new places.
This series is well established in other cities and they cover a wide variety of aspects of Hamburg life. The website can be navigated quite well, and they different sections for "Food", "Entertainment", and "Experiences". I really like their interactive maps at the top of each rundown. Only downsides are that the page is only in German and I find their most recent posts to be quite ad-heavy.
Mostly active on Instagram - look out for their weekend roundups. The website also looks good and is well separated into the different categories.
Google Maps
It's a classic. I find ratings to be pretty consistent on Hamburg, and this has been a great tool for digging out new places. Is only a bit cumbersome when searching for places outside of the main "Szeneviertel" (areas).
